Sending a Wreath to a Gallery Exhibition
Three things to check before sending flowers to a space where every meter counts
Three things to check before sending flowers to a space where every meter counts
You have the gallery's address, but the first question is whether you can send a wreath at all. Unlike a wedding hall or a funeral home, an exhibition space does not accept wreaths as a matter of course.
What makes exhibition wreaths tricky is not the flowers — it is the space. Here is what to check before you order, in order.

An exhibition space is designed around the artwork. Walkways are narrow and the lighting is set for the pieces, so a three-tier standing wreath taller than an adult can genuinely block half the entrance.
For that reason, quite a few galleries decline standing wreaths. If the exhibition is inside a department store or a cultural center, building rules may allow flowers only as far as the lobby.
Before ordering, call the gallery and ask three things: whether there is a spot for a wreath, whether it would go at the entrance or inside, and how many tiers are allowed. Once the size is settled, the rest of the decisions come easily.
If a wreath is too much for an indoor exhibition, a potted orchid or a flower basket is the natural alternative. The three serve slightly different purposes.
| Type | Where it fits | What to check first |
|---|---|---|
| Three-tier congratulatory wreath | Building entrance, outdoor approach | Whether it is allowed in, and where it would stand |
| Potted phalaenopsis orchid | Inside the exhibition space, on the floor beside the desk | Whether the artist will take it home after the show |
| Flower basket | On the guestbook table or reception desk | Table space, and whether the flowers are strongly scented |
A flower basket takes up the least room, since it sits on a table. It is best to avoid strongly scented flowers, though — in an enclosed exhibition space, scent becomes part of the viewing experience.
If you are sending congratulations from abroad, prices are shown and billed in US dollars, and you can pay without a PayPal account. Flower baskets start at $39. The recipient's contact number must be a Korean phone number, because the courier calls that number on arrival.
A wreath should arrive one to two hours before the opening time printed on the invitation. The gallery is at its busiest on opening day, so arriving a day early is also fine if you clear it with them in advance.
The order timing needs some arithmetic too. Arrive in Bloom's same-day delivery cutoff is 5:00 PM; orders placed after that are delivered from 10:00 AM the next day. Deliveries run between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM, so even for an evening opening, ordering the day before is the safe choice.
Removal is something the sender should raise first. Wreaths are usually cleared away the day after the opening rather than kept until the exhibition ends, so ask the gallery how they handle it — and if you leave it to them, include a word of thanks.
The ribbon message should be formal, with the sender's name clearly stated. Written out by hand on your behalf, it might read:
Congratulations on your first solo exhibition — From ○○○
Congratulations on the opening of your exhibition — The staff of ○○ Co., Ltd.
May this exhibition be remembered as long as the works themselves — ○○○

A potted phalaenopsis orchid or a flower basket is the alternative. An orchid sits well inside the exhibition space, and a flower basket can go on the guestbook table, taking up the least room.
