Teachers' Day Flower Delivery in Korea: When to Order So It Arrives on Time

Every year from early May, we start getting the same question: if I order on the morning of May 15, will it arrive that day?
The short answer is yes, it can. But that one day has more variables than usual, and the normal rules don't always hold.
The same-day cutoff at Arrive in Bloom (이름꽃) is 5:00 p.m. Order before 5:00 p.m. and it goes out that day; orders after that leave the following day from 10:00 a.m. onward.
The issue isn't the cutoff time, it's how tightly the day is packed. Teachers' Day concentrates more flower orders into a shorter window than any other day of the year, so even a morning order can end up later in the delivery queue, in the afternoon.
A school is a difficult place to deliver to in the afternoon. Deliveries run from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., but the school day usually ends around 4:00 p.m.
So the advice is simple: order on the 13th or 14th and set the requested delivery date for the morning of the 15th. Orders are accepted 24 hours a day, so placing one late at night is fine.

Start with where it will be received. Flowers are rarely brought straight to a classroom; usually the 교무실 (teachers' office) or the administrative office takes them in. Adding a line after the address, such as the teachers' office for a particular grade, cuts down the time spent looking for the right place.
Second is the phone number. The driver calls on arrival, and a teacher in class can't pick up. If you don't have the homeroom teacher's number, it's better to put down the teachers' office main line. The recipient's number must be a Korean number, and this is where former students ordering from abroad often get stuck.
Third is school policy. Gifts sent to a homeroom teacher by a current student or parent fall under the 청탁금지법 (Improper Solicitation and Graft Act), and schools have sent them back. The situation is different for a former student paying respects after graduation, so it's safer to check before sending.
Demand for carnations concentrates in the second week of May, which widens the swings in both price and condition. For the same budget, other materials sometimes arrive in better shape.
Given that the flowers will sit on a desk and then have to be carried home at the end of the day, a low form that doesn't spread sideways works better. A small basket with a container fits that.
Strongly scented flowers can be a burden in a space shared by several people. Lisianthus, stock, ranunculus and pale-colored roses are all safe choices.
The card doesn't need to be long.
