Pink Phalaenopsis
Sprays of small pink moth-orchid flowers over glossy green leaves, set in a heavy black jar pot — formal, warm, and in flower for months.
The full stop at the end of a room
This is made with Mancheonhong, the small-flowered pink Phalaenopsis, chosen because the blooms sit close together all the way to the tip of each stem rather than thinning out. The result is a plant with real presence for its size.
It is finished for somewhere people arrive — an executive office, a shop entrance, a living room — where the flowers are the first thing seen and the last thing remembered.
Four things the florist points out
Density. Pink flowers open closely along each stem, so the plant reads full rather than sparse.
The black jar pot. A premium black ceramic with a weighty, ridged texture — the dark body is what makes the pink look refined instead of sweet.
Green underneath. Leafy foliage is layered below the flower stems, so the pot still looks like a small garden when the flowers are resting.
Staying power. Varieties are selected for how well they cope with a normal room, and the flowers hold for one to two months or more.
Easy to keep
Put it in a bright room by a window where the air moves. Watering once every ten to fourteen days — roughly once a fortnight — is all it asks, and on that alone it will hold its flowers for over two months.
Phalaenopsis adapts well to ordinary rooms, so this is a straightforward plant to be given even for someone who has never kept one.
