Ilhyanggeum is an oriental orchid whose long leaves carry a broad golden margin, and the colour runs evenly through the whole plant rather than appearing on a leaf or two. It holds that look all year — there is no short flowering window to wait for or miss.

The pot answers it. The lower bowl is pierced in a dense openwork lattice; the neck, handles and scrolled foot are finished in bright gold. Together they read as one object, which is why this arrangement changes the feel of an office the moment it is set down.
