This is the premium form of Sancheonbose. The leaves are wider and thicker than an ordinary oriental orchid, so the plant stands in a sturdy, settled shape rather than a thin spray.
The pot does the rest. Its celadon-toned body is carved right through in an openwork pattern, banded with an old fret motif and finished with two small handles — the kind of piece that turns a desk into something closer to a gallery shelf.
Why an orchid, and why this one
In Korea an oriental orchid is the standard gift for a formal, respectful occasion. Sancheonbose is said to herald the new year and carry great fortune, which is why it is chosen so often for a promotion or a transfer to a new post.
